Biography

Jafar is a PhD Student in the Department of Medical Genetics, Faculty of Medicine, UBC, under the supervision of Dr. Colin Ross. He completed his BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science at the University of Wolverhampton. Jafar is currently affiliated with the CPNDS (Canadian Pharmacogenomics Network for Drug Safety) and BC Children’s hospital research institute; where he does most of his research. His doctoral research explores the pharmacogenomics of anthracycline-induced cardiotoxicity. The long-term goal of his research is to utilize pharmacogenomics to effectively reduce cardiotoxicity and provide cancer patients a safe and effective means of cardioprotection during anthracycline treatments. Along with his research goals, he is also broadly interested in gene therapy, population genetics and population geography.
