His research examines the cellular events which contribute to lung injury and repair. Shyam’s focus is a Circulating Mesenchymal Cell precursor, the fibrocyte, he aims to better understand the biology of this cell and its exact role(s) in lung injury and repair. He works with a team whose focus is translation medicine and they isolate these cells from patient samples. Their work adds to the existing evidence that this cell may prove to be a useful biomarker of lung injury due to pathological or possibly pharmacological insults.
